Union today

At the moment, The Union of Theatre Workers of Azerbaijan is one of the most active creative organizations operating in our country.

Uniting about 800 members the union as well as its branches in Nakhchivan, Ganja, Lankaran and Sumgait have a significant impact on the process of the national Theatre.

Adhering to historical traditions, the union regularly organizes festivals, competitions, meetings, memorials, conferences, seminars, master-classes, briefings, press conferences and presentations.

The Union is a full member of the most influential Theatre organizations in the world: the UNESCO International Theatre Institute and the International Confederation of Theatre Unions. The National Azerbaijan Center of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute is also connected to the Union.

Successfully working in the field of international cooperation, the Union signed a memorandum on the development of cultural connections with the Georgian Theatre Society in November 2018. As part of the memorandum, more memorandums of cooperation were signed, between The Sumgait State Drama Theatre and the Kutaisi State Professional Drama Theatre in November 2018 and between the Ganja State Drama Theatre and the Ozurgeti State Drama Theatre in April 2019.

The Union of Theatre Workers together with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Yeni Azerbaijan Party (New Azerbaijan Party), the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, the National Academic Drama Theatre, the State Theatre Museum, the Baku Academy of Music, and the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts held numerous events playing an important role in promotion of the theatrical art.

Just like it did throughout the history, The Union pays particular attention to printing and publishing various materials. Every year, the Union publishes a book dedicated to outstanding Azerbaijani artists and presents them to international organizations and libraries of the country.

Memorials, anniversaries, meetings and performances of the “Zafar” theatre studio are held in the Union Hall and on the smaller stage named after People's Artist Mustafa Mardanov, which makes it possible for the creative youth to reveal their creative potential.

The Union constantly monitors the development of creative youth and provides support for their participation in international projects.

The Union always supports creative activity in theatres located in war zones, regularly holds meetings with them, taking an interest and solving their problems.

In support of the activity of creative youth, the Union welcomed them to labs for young playwrights, actors, directors and theatre critics. Well-known artists regularly hold master-classes here. Lab students participated in youth theatre forums in the CIS, Baltic countries and Georgia in different years. Creative works of young playwrights, theatre critics, directors and theatre artists were published in Moscow by the International Confederation of Theatre Unions.

The Union of Theatre Workers of Azerbaijan intends to further develop and improve its projects and programs and do everything possible to revitalize the theatre process in our country, provide support for new endeavors and integrate our national theatre art into the modern international theatre process.
